Selecting household water filters in emergencies – a manual for field evaluation

Under the lead of FHNW, Ranas contributed to the development of a practical manual about the steps needed to select and promote household water filters in emergency settings. The manual is structured in a modular way:

Part 1: introduces and outlines a general study set-up to answer the most pressing questions

  • Is the filter suitable for our context?
  • Does the filter perform well and is it accepted?
  • Which of the multiple filters suits better for our context?
  • How should the filter be optimized to better meet the needs and context?

Part 2: comprises many information sheets on a wide range of topics

  • Filter and context pre-evaluation
  • Logistics and preparation
  • Distribution, user information and training
  • Technical performance evaluation
  • User acceptance evaluation

The manual was funded and supported by Elrha’s Humanitarian Innovation Fund (HIF) programme.
