Like many local organisations, Adra Ecuador immediately organized a response to COVID-19. Planning for behaviour change was essential, so that communities would protect themselves and contagion could be halted. Hand washing, social distancing, and mask-wearing were important behaviours to reinforce or introduce. In this case, communities also needed to know what to do in case someone shows symptoms. A qualitative analysis about barriers and motivating factors also brought to light mental health and social issues: Depression, social isolation, feelings of frustration, fear and powerlessness. Involving people actively into distributing behaviour change messages for Covid prevention gave them the opportunity to feel more involved, connected and impactful.
