Ranas conducted a 3 day in-person training on a safe sanitation campaign in Uige, Angola. The training was attended not only by the future campaign promoters, but also by municipality officials, members of the water service utility, construction companies, and of course the lead engineering company, ENGconsult. The training was followed by a pre-test of the community event and a small group training. The project plans to construct 5000 latrines across 5 suburbs of Uige.
The campaign will have three main components:
- Community events to raise awareness and create social commitment
- Small group trainings, one on safe sanitation and one on pit emptying, for in-depth addressing RANAS behavioural factors like feelings, action planning and social norms, for example.
- Household visits for follow-up, monitoring and committing families to safe sanitation.
The pre-test of the community event and the small group training on safe sanitation went promising and attracted many people from the community.
Now the campaign is being finalized based on the experiences from the pre-test. Latrine construction and campaign start is planned for early July and will last for 18 months.
