Benin: Assessing user preferences and willingness to pay for improved menstrual hygiene products and latrines

Since 2020, Helvetas has introduced an improved latrine model called Watè Alafia, as part of their market-based approach to promoting total sanitation in Borgou, Atacora, Donga regions in Benin. Since then, 2139 improved latrines have been sold. Ranas has been mandated to investigate the user experience, identify points for improvements and develop a communication strategy for bringing Waté Alafia latrines to new user segments.

Helvetas further aims to introduce a locally manufactured and reusable menstrual hygiene pad in the project regions. Ranas investigates the preferences of potential users, including adolescent girls, assess the willingness to pay and identify drivers and barriers for actual purchase and use of the new product.
