This short pilot study in several hospitals in Bangladesh looked at staff standard operating procedures when it came to hygiene and waste management at their workplace, as well as patient’s hygiene and sanitation behaviours.
We identified areas where WASH infrastructure and practices were not contributing to infection control and prevention in the way that they should. Particularly handwashing of staff, patients and accompanying persons was an area that could easily be improved whilst having the potential of a big positive impact on health in hospitals.
The plan was to develop standard operating procedures, training programs, and behavior change campaigns as a next step; for the areas of proper use and disposal of personal protection equipment, proper cleaning and disinfecting (of surfaces, medical instruments, the ambulance) and waste management. However, these plans could not be realized because unfortunately, the foundation which was funding this project closed down. Interested parties are welcome to contact us.
