This project was initiated by Solidar Suisse as part of the project Promoting the Abandonment of Child Labour in the Cotton Sector (PATEC) and implemented in two regions of Burkina Faso, the Cascades region and the Boucle du Mouhoun region. In December 2020 and January 2021, quantitative data was collected from 420 cotton farmers interviewed in structured face-to-face interviews. The relevant RANAS factors were identified using this data and were addressed through theater performances and radio spots. These activities were followed by two home visits in which perceptions of what other parents and others in the community do were focused upon. Through applying these interventions, children’s exposure to chemical fertilizers was reduced by 30% and their school attendance during cotton harvest was improved by 10%.
