The International Blue Cross is running a successful Life Skills Programme with youth in Chad and DR Congo, among other countries. The Life Skills Programme targets prevention of alcohol and drug abuse, as well as prevention and reduction of sexual risk behaviours and gender-based violence.
Our external evaluation showed just how successful these Programmes are. Our extensive evaluation methodology consisted of a desk review, literature research, focus group discussions, key informant interviews, beneficiary questionnaires and a debriefing workshop. The evaluation indicators were relevance, effectiveness, efficiency, impact, and sustainability. Finally, benchmarking the Life Skills Programme with the RANAS approach showed many overlaps and discovered opportunities for additional behavioural factors to be included.
The evaluation showed the strong impact of the Programme on the above-named behaviours, as well as an effect that goes beyond the direct effect on beneficiaries and participants. Recommendations for expansion were included in the final report and discussed in the debriefing workshop.
