Promoting handwashing and Covid-19 prevention behaviours in Gaza

CESVI Gaza team conducted 200 interviews in selected households at baseline in June 2020, and 200 interviews at follow-up in February 2021. Spot-check observations of context factors and direct observations of the target behaviour were performed during the household visits at baseline and endline. The follow-up survey results revealed statistically significant changes in availability of soap for handwashing, in handwashing with soap, intention to wash hands with soap and habit. In all behavioural factors targeted with the behaviour change intervention (except for behaviour of others in the household) showed significant changes as well. Additionally, remarkable improvements in Covid-19 prevention behaviours like the use of hand sanitizers, social distancing, staying at home, and the use of face masks were noted.
